The
Renaissance Hotel: Fort Lauderdale's First New Major Hotel
in 15 Years Underway
The
Renaissance Ft. Lauderdale Hotel will become the City's first
new major hotel in 15 years when it opens its doors in February,
2001 on the SE 17th Street Causeway.
The
233-room Mediterranean-styled hotel has been designed with
the casual elegance and special touch of individuality that
distinctly characterizes the world-wide portfolio of Renaissance
Hotels and Resorts, a division of Marriott International.
Following
final tower crane installation on January 11, a groundbreaking
ceremony was hosted by the principals which include Interlink
Hospitality Corp. of Ft. Lauderdale, Lennar Partners of Miami,
and IAG Florida, Inc. of Coconut Grove, Florida.
Trading
briefcases for hardhats, the project executives shoveled topsoil
on a 3.3-acre site strategically located opposite the Broward
County Convention Center in Port Everglades. The Renaissance
Hotel is the last development phase of The Quay, an upscale
commercial and retail area, internationally-known fir its
specialized yachting and marine boutiques, the Bimini Boatyard
Bar & Grill restaurant, and the Boathouse, a mega-yacht
dock complex.
